As co-founders of Stretta String Duet, Andrew and Meagan blend their classical training and unique sound to provide distinctive touches for special events.
Bios of the Artists
Andrew Richter - As a child, Andrew began cello lessons in Buffalo, NY. He is a **** graduate of Colby College, where he studied with the Portland String Quartet. His formal cello studies continued in Europe, where he was a member of various ensembles in France and Switzerland, performing at both Victoria Hall and the United Nations. In addition to classical engagements, Andrew is an active Portland based studio musician, and has appeared as a guest artist on CDs of local entertainers. Andrew’s passion for chamber ensembles resulted from years practicing with a brother and sister who played string instruments as well.
Meaghan McIntyre - Began violin lessons in Portland, Maine when she was * years old. As Meagan’s talent developed, she was selected to attend the preparatory division of the New England Conservatory of Music. While studying at the Conservatory, she won both the Martha J. Blood competition and the Gould Award for her top performances. Meagan has performed throughout the North East with various chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras. She has recently expanded her repertoire to include bluegrass, Acadian, folk and roots fiddle music.

- Cocktail Reception/Hors D'Oeuvres—Light Classics are recommended, so the music does not demand too much attention, while helping create a beautiful setting. No, we don’t mind playing second fiddle to an event; it is our job to provide the background music that is meant to enhance your evening.

- Dinner—We recommend Baroque and early Classical selections (Bach,Vivaldi, Mozart); after all, many of these pieces were written specifically for these occasions.

- Corporate Events—Strings add just the right touch to an important meeting.

- Holiday Parties—“Nutcracker” favorites, Christmas carols, and/or popular tunes evoke the holiday spirit.

- Wine Tasting—Pop the cork with Baroque and early Classical, followed by some popular tunes and other arrangements.

- Grand Openings—Combination of all styles, depending on acoustics and the audience.

Stretta String Duet - Andrew and Meagan first played together in **** as part of a special ensemble that performed at the Portland Museum of Art. In ****, they co-founded the Stretta String Duet and began performing at seaside weddings and lake view cocktail hours. Other highlights include:Three years of participation in the Arts & Business Collaboration in Portland, a trip to Manhattan where the Stretta String Duet performed at The Players Club, featured ensemble at The Clown for the First Friday Art Walk in connection with the ‘Variations on a Violin’ display, guest musicians at the Nestlenook Farm on the River in Jackson, NH, where Andrew and Meagan performed as both a duet and trio for the **** summer concert series, and a unique corporate event collaboration with Russian dancer Natalya Getmans, the radio station WBACH, that involved providing a string quartet accompaniment for a live performance of select Nutcracker dances.
